As Target is the second-largest general retailer in the United States, their affiliate program is primarily for American bloggers or publishers who can route visitors to relevant products. Overall, the program works much like Amazon’s does in that publishers (bloggers) get a small commission on sales, but Target’s gigantic product base (over one million items) and high brand recognition make their affiliate program a great option for influencers.
Thats a great point, and I’ve definitely seen my fair share of those “how to start a blog” posts. That’s always been a good fit for people at Location 180, and if they do a good job on the post (truly make it useful) that’s one that doesnt bother me as much – solely because I know how valuable starting a blog can be for your life and goals. So if it’s some personal finance blogger that creates one and you start a blog from that by following their tutorial – all the better!

Hey. Yes you can use just one website to promote multiple affiliate programs, but I’d say that your website should focus on just one niche. So you mention, SellHealth, that would lead me to believe your site is about health and fitness. I would then advise you to stick to that niche rather than promoting unrelated products like dog leashes and fashion accessories.
An email campaign is a powerful way of reaching your audience directly. Never miss a chance to collect email addresses and target your subscribers with content and offers that are relevant to them. Readers usually skim instead of reading the entire message. Keep your email clear, concise, and scannable. Include a call to action so your readers can understand what you want them to do. Its completely possible to have good margins and lots of research will help you find a better supplier. Try to keep a really good relationship with your supplier(s), add them on skype/facebook, get their phone number and treat them like a business friend!


The funny part of all this landing page, money making discussion is that the program that currently makes us about 70% of our income is one that I almost passed up promoting because of the low payout. It is a lead generation program that initially paid $8 per lead and we have since had that increased to $10 per lead because of the volume we produce (that is the nice thing about affiliate programs – if you are a proven performer, you will get higher payouts). At first I wondered how much money one could make $8 at a time – boy am I glad I took a chance with this program! So we have one landing page making us around 50-60K per year, $10 at a time. And we have many more landing pages promoting this same offer, they just aren’t performing at the same level – yet.


2: What do you want to sell? Some niches, believe it or not, are not available on Amazon. This primarily concerns small hobbies and esoteric items that are made from single companies that have not put themselves out there on storefronts. Check to make sure there’s an affiliate program for what you want to sell before you start setting up a site built around it. Likewise, get in touch with suppliers before you start trying to sell products.
It’s not mandatory, however I do recommend having a blog down the line. If you want to get your feet wet by trying affiliate promotions across social media, that’s great. But social media affiliate promotions don’t convert very well so you won’t earn a lot and may get discouraged. Affiliate marketing works best when you build a brand about something you’re interested in / know a lot about / want to become an expert in and you really need a blog / site to do that. If you want to start small but with a better converting medium, try a weekly newsletter (around a specific niche / topic) because it converts much higher and gets you into the habit of creating consistent content. You will need a landing page to capture emails so I’d recommend buying a domain to set one up so you can later develop it into a blog / site when you’re ready.
It sounds like you have a good system going and you are correct, they both do take a lot of work. Most people will not have the time to put up hundreds of affiliate sites and stores. Given that you are comparing one affiliate site versus one dropshipped store, they both should take a similar amount of time to rank in the search engines. The advantage of the dropshipped store is that you won’t be completely dependent on SEO. If Google were to all of a sudden tank your website for your keywords (this has happened to me on several occasions), then you still have a solid customer base and word of mouth that will get you new customers.
What many affiliate marketers do is find their niche in the market. This allows them to be focused on specific products or merchants, which lets them gain loyal followers and build a reputation that reflects expertise on a particular subject. After all, you as a consumer will most likely take the word of a person who has reviewed all kinds of vehicles as opposed to someone who reviews everything from sports cars to lemonade to fertilizer.
This is the #1 mistake affiliates make with email marketing. While it’s great to have a list to sell to, you don’t want to be selling all the time. Break up the stream of email sales offers with some content. Aim for about an 80/20 split. That would be four straight emails that give great content to your reader and then one email of take, which is the selling part.
Now a customer comes along and orders one of your cases. They pay you $20 and you immediately turn around, contact your supplier, and order one for $10. You don’t do anything else. You give the customer’s address to the supplier, and you give the customer the supplier’s customer service information. The supplier ships the product directly to the customer, and you pocket the $10. If the customer has an issue, the supplier’s customer service department deals with it.
Another thing that I didn’t mention is that if someone doesn’t have to sign up to your email list and they click on your affiliate link you will earn a commission if they make a purchase but you will not have access to their name and email information. They will basically be one time buyers for you because you didn’t capture their name and email address first.
