The task can sound daunting –  generating specific campaigns for individuals when a company has an email list of millions of users – but it’s not. In recent years, there has been an explosion of personally identifiable information (PII) available for companies to use as consumers make purchases on websites, log in to social media networks, and connect their email accounts across devices. When a consumer opts-in to the terms and services of these websites, email marketing agencies can collect hundreds of data points, ranging from name, age, and gender, to date of subscription, lead status, and buying patterns.

This is very typical to newsletters. So whenever you check your inbox and you look at the emails you received from different companies, most of the times, those are the emails you’re looking at. They’re just newsletter emails that either went to the entire list or the majority of the list. What they should improve: It's probably more of a feature than a bug but definitely one of the things I don't find ideal – you're completely dependent on Amazon SES. Because of that, the setup process takes a lot longer than for other newsletter tools. You have to register for two different services and Amazon requests a lot of information from you.
A premium feature that you won’t find with any of these providers is marketing automation, so it’s worth taking that into account. For many types of software—file sharing, projects, and content management or eCommerce especially—it often makes sense to self-host apps, customize them for your needs, and run them from your own server once your company's large enough. Not email. Sending emails from your own server simply is too much trouble for all but the largest companies. You'll likely see your emails blocked by spam filters, or your servers swamped when you send messages to a large list.
In simple words, it is the practice of creating and sending out highly customized/personalized emails to a specific segment of your email list. Remember, most visitors won't read your entire email but will simply scan it, looking for clues to quickly answer their questions. For best results, use short blocks of text and bullets to make your message easier to scan. A call to action should be visible "above the fold" - that is, within the first screen full of information that the reader will see. Make sure that any links are clearly formatted as clickable links. If you're using images for links, make sure they look clickable as well (for example, a button that contains the words "more information" or "order now").
Why It’s Important: Magdalena Georgieva, writing for Hubspot, shares the following incredible statistics: “We took a look at 21 of our existing thank-you emails and found that, on average, they generated a 42% open rate and a 14% CTR. For comparison, we then looked at the generic marketing emails we’ve sent to one group of our buyer personas. The sample used here was larger – 131 emails – which, on average, generated a 12% open rate and a 6% CTR.”

Why It’s Important: Gregory Ciotti, writing for HelpScout, states: “Successfully utilizing customer feedback is a must for any business looking to provide users with the products they need. Feedback guides and informs your decision-making and influences your product roadmap. It’s also essential for measuring customer satisfaction among your current customers. Getting a handle on how customers view your product, support, and company is invaluable.”


Along with presenting your customer with relevant and useful content, use your email newsletter as a chance to bring one of your products or services into the limelight while listing its benefits and driving consumers to a point of sale—whether it be on your site or at a brick-and-mortar (and in some cases, both). Essentially, you have a captive audience here—carpe diem!
