There are tons of software and automation tools out there that make email marketing a breeze. For example, MailChimp and Constant Contact can be used to send out emails and monitor how your subscribers interact with your emails. You can also use email marketing software to track analytics like click-through rates, open rates, bounce rates, and conversions.  

There’s no doubt about it – email marketing is a great way to both increase your company’s online sales and build relationships with current and potential customers.  Having an active email marketing list gives you the ability to follow-up with customers who haven’t yet purchased from you, as well as the chance to send targeted promotions to past buyers.

I would have benefited much more from a rating of some sort of the various features of each service, or at least the pros & cons of each.

Send your latest holiday promotions to your email list. Since consumers have come to expect marketing materials in their inboxes, they are more likely to respond to sales content in an email than on social media. You can use this to your advantage by letting everyone on your email list know what your latest holiday promotions will be. If you are offering a discount or coupon, you can put any codes or barcodes directly in the email. When it comes to special sales, deliver flyers to your email list that include the dates and details for each promotion.
Andrew Warner experimented with this strategy on Mixergy.com a while ago. It was quite successful at growing his list. In a more prominent case with a full write-up on Tim Ferris’s website, Harry’s, a company that makes high-end shaving kits for men, ran a similar contest-like promotion before formally launching and managed to gather over 100,000 email addresses. Finally here are my recommendations for giveaway / raffle tools:

What we liked: Ecommerce is definitely Omnisend’s strong suit. The range and depth of integrations available with online stores is impressive. There’s even integration with Google ads for retargeting campaigns, and options to segment lists based on purchase data. The tool also includes some very nice landing page templates. Plus, there’s a free plan that lets you send up to 15,000 emails per month (max. 2,000 per day).
Use a reactivation campaign to gauge whether non-responsive subscribers are still reading (just not clicking through or tracking open rates), or if they’ve truly decided to opt out. An example from MarketingProfs is shown here. The language you choose can play a big role in how successful these campaigns are, so be sure to split-test a few versions to maximize response.
I’ve opted in to lists that have anywhere from one to sixty messages already completed, queued, and ready to deliver. If you’re more hands-off you may want to write as many messages as you can up front to minimize your work on the back end. If you’re more involved in your business on a daily basis you may want to consider writing only one or two auto-responder messages and the rest live and delivered as a broadcast message. A broadcast message is one that’s sent immediately and not pre-scheduled.
While this is mostly just a legacy feature from pre-Zapier times, the native integrations can enable connections that are not possible on Zapier. Our recommendation would be to search on Zapier for the tools that you currently use, and if they’re all on there, choose one of the email marketing tools above that provides the most triggers and actions.
Email marketing applies old strategies to new tools. Even though email is new, the basic content of an email ad is no different than the print advertising that has been around for a century. Finding ways to use pictures, text, and special offers to make people want to buy a product has been the mission of marketers for as long as there has been marketing. As such, getting a degree in marketing is one of the best ways to prepare potential marketers for running effective email campaigns.
Consumers also face malware risks, i.e. malvertising, when interacting with online advertising. This one is a little more advanced… unless you use Aweber. If you use Aweber for your email marketing and autoresponders, you might be surprised to hear that they actually have a nifty little feature that allows people to opt-in to your newsletter by clicking to connect their Facebook account. Then, Aweber automatically grabs their email address and name and puts it into your list. Neil Patel tested this a while ago on his blog, QuickSprout.com, and saw a higher conversion rate than on his regular email opt-in form. The primary reason for this is, like the Lead Pages strategy above, Facebook already knows your email so if you’re logged in the form is prefilled with your email address. Thus, it’s just 1 click to opt-in. If you don’t use Aweber but have some extra cash laying around to invest in your blog, consider posting this feature or plugin project as a job on Elance or Freelancer.com. The results could pay for themselves.

This is a mistake.  Sending regular messages to your email marketing list conditions your audience to expect to hear from you at certain intervals.  At best, your recipients may come to look forward to your scheduled missives, but even at its worst, sending regular messages gets your audience members used to seeing your company’s name inside their inboxes.
You’re probably already investing time and resources into marketing to potential customers. But are you also thinking carefully about how you build relationships with vendors and partnering businesses? Email gives you the ability to maintain communication with all of your different audiences so that you can build the relationships you need to be successful.

Then, you can use what you’ve learned to drive even more conversions through your email marketing. For example, let’s say that you’re running a Labor Day sale that features a buy one, get one promotion. You might use social media to educate your audience and let them know about the sale, and then later use email marketing to drive traffic to the product page.
3) Google Analytics. Without knowing and analyzing your key site and page metrics, visitor interactions and traffic sources, its really hard to know the performance of your opt-in rate for your email list, and to measure the downtstream impact of your opt-in tests/improvements on other goals like sales. For example which pages convert best and which traffic sources need tweaking more to boost opt-ins. Your list building efforts are blinded without knowing how to use Google Analytics properly and gaining great insights from it!

Do you have an older list that you suspect has mostly decayed? Create an engaging opt-in message and send it to your old list encouraging contacts who wish to re-opt-in -- promising to remove all contacts who don't respond. Though it might seem counterintuitive to remove folks from your email lists in order to grow them, emailing only engaged contacts could improve your deliverability and increase the odds of your email getting shared with those outside your current contacts database.

A call to action (CTA) is a word or phrase that encourages readers and subscribers to do something specific. Examples of calls to action include “subscribe”, “shop now”, “get the free ebook”. You use CTAs on email signup forms, landing pages, in email newsletters, and more. When someone does what you want as a result of your call to action, that’s called a conversion. In email marketing, a conversion often means following a link in a email newsletter to visit another resource.

One of the downsides of email marketing is that you are only able to reach the contacts that you already have. However, you can use social media to help you grow your email marketing list so that you have an even larger audience for your holiday sales. One way to do this is to promote your opt-in offers across your social media profiles. Consider offering some sort of incentive for joining your email list, such as a special coupon code.
