To review: Exit detection popups are a “smarter” form of email capture popup. It appears when it detects that the mouse from a visitor is moving off the page, towards the top, and he or she is probably about to hit the back button or type in a new web address (example below) There are a number of free options for this, but none of them work as well as the paid exit-detection popups that are out there. I personally use and recommend Optin Monster which costs $199. The biggest benefits to using something like Optin Monster is that you can A/B test your pop-ups AND set specific popups to appear on specific pages. No business can grow without an email list of subscribers. The email list building list you have written seems to be effective. And you have managed to list all the noteworthy tools for building an email list of subscribers.
Personally I avoid pop-up boxes since they upset so many people and they’re also so 1990. I believe you never want to start your relationship with your subscribers by pissing them off. But if you disagree you’re welcome to test pop-ups on your site if you like to. Speaking of testing, I highly recommend you test several different opt-in forms on your site and keep track of which one converts at the highest rate. The AWeber dashboard will help you do just that, and there are tutorials on setting up split-testing opt-in forms there too.

A significant GDPR factor is non-profits having to consent/re-consent those on established email lists and experiencing significant proportions of lists being lost because people miss the notifications or are too busy to fill in yet more forms. However, I have found a few using a ‘one-touch’ re-subscription button that takes immediate effect, without the recipient having to do anything else. It would appear that the re-subscription rate is higher, the easier it is to activate. On enquiry, I was told that they were using mail chimp for this.
