This strategy is pretty popular among more seasoned marketers like Ryan Deis (founder of DigitalMarketer.com) and others who are huge proponents of spending money on ads in order to acquire traffic (rather than doing content marketing or SEO, I mean who do that crazy stuff right? 😉 ) After they convert that traffic on a free offer, the newly opted-in subscribers are sent to a page that says “Thank You” with an offer to buy something (usually something inexpensive, less than $50 so it can be considered an “impulse buy.”). Zapier is also a freeium service like Mailchimp and Wufoo, but it’s focus is on helping you automate tasks between different web apps and sites. The smartest way (little known way) you can use Zapier is to set it up to automatically post Tweets and Facebook posts at regular intervals with a link to a landing page. Followers and fans can click the link to sign-up for your newsletter or autoresponder course.
It makes sense right? Afterall, why do you need the same email address opt-in more than once — you don’t! Here is the ONLY example I’ve seen of someone doing this on their blog, and it comes from Brennan Dunn who I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know personally in the last year. If you look closely, you can even see that the point after the traffic settles down after the third spike is higher than the “valleys” after the first two spikes. I don’t know of any tools to recommend that make this easy (though I plan to have my developer create a plugin for WordPress when I get around to it in the future). I’m sure you’ve heard it before many many times but it’s true. If you have something to sell your list will bring you more income than any other single method. Not only is your list the most important asset you have but it can come with you. What I mean by that is if you have a website on your chosen topic that dies for whatever reason your list will be unaffected by it. You can simply start a new site and move all your peeps over to the new site with one email notification. It sure beats starting all over again.
If you want to ensure that subscribers continue to open and read your email messages, it’s important that you reduce the amount of content that could be considered spam. Keep images to a minimum and eliminate any overt sales language. Be sure that the content you are sending to your subscribers has a purpose and provides some value. All of this will help you optimize email marketing delivery rates.
If the content of your message is solid, it’s likely that you’ll never run into issues with your spam score.  However, because a high score can be triggered by unexpected combinations of message elements – and because spam scores that are too high could prevent your messages from being delivered correctly by most email services – it’s important to double-check this metric before queuing your messages up for delivery.
