Mobile advertising is growing rapidly for several reasons. There are more mobile devices in the field, connectivity speeds have improved (which, among other things, allows for richer media ads to be served quickly), screen resolutions have advanced, mobile publishers are becoming more sophisticated about incorporating ads, and consumers are using mobile devices more extensively.:14 The Interactive Advertising Bureau predicts continued growth in mobile advertising with the adoption of location-based targeting and other technological features not available or relevant on personal computers.:14 In July 2014 Facebook reported advertising revenue for the June 2014 quarter of $2.68 billion, an increase of 67 percent over the second quarter of 2013. Of that, mobile advertising revenue accounted for around 62 percent, an increase of 41 percent on the previous year.
So many brands and companies build their audiences on Facebook and Google+, which is fine, but we don’t own those names – Facebook and Google do. If we are thinking like real media companies, the asset is in the audience. Getting an email address is the first critical step to figuring out who my reader is and, hopefully in the future, my customer of some sort. If our goal is to drive sales or keep customers happy in some way, we first need to get them as part of our audience. If I have one regret as a business owner, it’s not focusing on building our email list earlier in the process.
Offering a free tools report is a quite common opt-in bribe. I’ve experimented with it a bit and had success to a limited degree, but there are 2 prominent cases where offering a tools report worked extremely well. Lead Pages Clay Collins and the guys over at Lead Pages recently published a blog post where they showed the highest optin landing page they tested to grow their own email list, and it was a a free tools report. The full video explanation is below, but the jist of it is this. Creating an “optin bride” like this can take as little as 30 minutes, it doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to be something people WANT. And the reason why it works so well is because people understand the offer (“tools” is a much clearer word than “resources”) plus, it’s a low commitment offer (perhaps why in some contexts, this kind of offer would beat a free course offer).
Historically, it has been difficult to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns because target markets cannot be adequately defined. Email marketing carries the benefit of allowing marketers to identify returns on investment and measure and improve efficiency. Email marketing allows marketers to see feedback from users in real time, and to monitor how effective their campaign is in achieving market penetration, revealing a communication channel's scope. At the same time, however, it also means that the more personal nature of certain advertising methods, such as television advertisements, cannot be captured.
Drive traffic back to your website with specific CTAs. When marketing your holiday sales through email marketing, make sure to take the opportunity to drive traffic directly back to your site. Use a distinct and compelling call-to-action that invites readers to click for more information or to make a purchase. Link each CTA to a targeted landing page that provides more details about your holiday promotions. You could also link directly to a product page for easy purchase.
Split testing, also referred to often as A/B testing, is one of the most effective ways to increase your conversions. A split test on your website means to run a randomized test with two or more design variations being shown to different visitors. The “winning” design variation is the one that get you more results (clicks, email optins, purchases). Split testing makes a lot of sense for websites with 10,000+ visitors per month, so for that reason you should question whether this is the right strategy (right now) to help you grow your email list. That being said, I have developed a concept called Micro A/B Testing which you might want to try out instead if your website is not yet ready for split tests. Improve brand recognition. Social media ads are also ideal for improving brand recognition. By placing ads on the social media platforms that your target audience frequents most, you can start to build up a larger fan base. The more familiar consumers are with your brand, the more likely they will be to make a purchase—especially when they come across your holiday sale. Try running a brand awareness campaign on Facebook prior to your big sale.

If you’re frequently practicing the content upgrade strategy as part of your blogging efforts, you’ll quickly amass a base of “premium” upgrades. One relatively advanced method for packaging this base of content upgrades is to create a “content vault.” This is where you require visitors on your website to register and in exchange they get full access to all your content upgrades instantly (plus some other goodies, ideally). There is also a piece of legislation called the CAM-SPAM Act that includes a series of rules to curtail the transmission of spam. These rules include having a non-deceptive subject line, a method subscribers can use to easily unsubscribe from your email list, and your name and address at the end of all emails. As long as you adhere to the requirements of the CAM-SPAM Act, your emails should be spam-free!
If the content of your message is solid, it’s likely that you’ll never run into issues with your spam score. However, because a high score can be triggered by unexpected combinations of message elements – and because spam scores that are too high could prevent your messages from being delivered correctly by most email services – it’s important to double-check this metric before queuing your messages up for delivery.
Consider this: the average open rate for email is 21.73 percent, while Facebook organic reach has decreased to about 6 percent. Think you might have better luck with Twitter? One marketer found that less than 2 percent of his followers actually see his tweets. 1. Easily the number one most effective tool for growing my email list so far has been Twitter lead generation cards. They’re a little new (well new-ish), so a lot of people aren’t using them. I think that’s been helping. There’s a novelty factor right now. People want to see what happens when they click the button (which of course instantly places your email address, name, and Twitter username into my Mailchimp email list). Also, most people don’t realize, because the lead gen cards are a part of Twitter’s ad platform, that you don’t have to use them with ads. They are free to use alongside organic tweets. That’s mostly what I’ve been doing. Of course, already having built of sizeable Twitter audience would help with that.
Where they can improve: Autoresponders are on the basic side – just enough to set up the most simple triggered campaigns. It doesn’t come with a huge template range, either (and none on the free plan), so you’ll probably need to use their visual editor to create your own. Finally, it doesn’t offer a spam or design testing feature – if you wanted these, they’d need to be performed externally.

Wow such a detailed review! I have tried MailChimp before and I found it too expensive. After that i’ve signed up to Mailerlite and got hooked. It’s either free or cheapish depending on your subscribers’ lists. With other email software providers, you’d need to make an investment even if you’re running a small shop or a blog. And let’s be honest, not everyone of us can afford it :)
In the end, you are likely to find one or two that can provide the services you need. At that point, you can compare pricing models and see which one works for you over the long-term. And, if it ever stops being the right solution for you, don’t be afraid to look into transitioning to a different format because, even though you signed up for a specific website builder today, that doesn’t mean you have to use it forever.

There is no rule again repurposing old content. Especially when certain content appeals specifically to individual market niches. Almost no one does this though, even though it saves a lot of time.
