If you want to expand your reach even further, consider using paid social ads as part of your strategy to boost email opt-ins. Create ads that promote your email list opt-in offer, and deliver this ad content to individuals who are similar to your best customers. Social media platforms like Facebook offer effective targeting features (e.g. lookalike audiences) that allow you to reach those who are most likely to be interested in joining your email list.
Frequency matters, and how often you send emails can have a significant impact on your revenue and email engagement (and unsubscribe) rates. Send too much and subscribers can suffer email fatigue causing them to disengage and unsubscribe. Send too few and you lose the attention of your audience. They may even forget why they signed up leading them to unsubscribe.
As you’re drafting your messages, pay as much attention to the spam score reported by your account provider as you do the content of your emails. Thanks Kelly, Mailchimp have definitely come a long way with their UI over the years, it’s just their service that hasn’t caught up ;) I haven’t had the chance to play around with Pure360 as much as I’d like, but I’ve heard the same things echoed by several friends who use their service. Looking at their client list, I think they’re more aimed at large companies though.
The low cost and relative ease of carrying out an email marketing campaign means that it is a tool that is accessible to almost any business. A small mechanic's shop can put together an email list and then send out coupons for oil changes or brake jobs. The scope and sophistication of these campaigns may not be as great as larger businesses, but that doesn't mean they won't be effective.
While the Mailerlite is very easy to use, after attempting to be “approved”. It really isn’t for the little businesses, especially those that do not have their own website – ie: I am an independent sales consultant for a company that provides me with a website to sell my products from, I don NOT have a email option with them. But because I don’t and don’t “own” the website, I was not approved (thanks spammers) so now I am in search of another easy to use program. I am not stupid with technology but I also do not have time to spend hours on my email marketing like I was with Mailchimp because it is not user friendly. Oh well on to the next one

Email Newsletters – These are regular emails that are sent to a list of subscribers who have chosen to receive updates from a company. Newsletters usually don't have explicit sales messages, but try instead to build a relationship between a customer and a brand. They often have a conversational tone and contain news and information that will be of interest to the customer. The goal is to keep a customer connected to a company even when they are not buying anything.
According to a study (PDF) published in the Journal of Consumer Research, people shy away from single option offers. However, when presented with multiple options, we are more likely to make a purchase decision on the spot (about 3x more likely in fact according the research). For this reason you want to consider giving people multiple options to optin for your offers. For example, here’s how I do it on our free course widget: Here’s another (perhaps even more effective) example from Michael Hyatt’s website. What I like about how Michael does it here is the fact that he truly give your two choices, not just two calls to action. One choice will sign-up immediately. The other will take you to a landing page where you can learn a little more and then optin there. Very smart, copy this on your own website.

Businesses should make registration simpler and offer incentives so that the users/readers have a reason to register. You need to be able to intrigue the users to get them on your mailing list. However, with only a few simple templates and styles to choose from, the underwhelming visual impact of emails sent through ConvertKit make it a decidedly “function over form” option—that is, the back-end management and analytics that ConvertKit offers far outshines the experience of the end audience. So if sending beautiful or graphic-heavy emails is your highest priority, you should probably look elsewhere.
There is also a piece of legislation called the CAM-SPAM Act that includes a series of rules to curtail the transmission of spam. These rules include having a non-deceptive subject line, a method subscribers can use to easily unsubscribe from your email list, and your name and address at the end of all emails. Similarly, if you find that more people are opening the emails that contain special promotions, this may be a sign that you should increase the frequency of these types of emails.
