Out of all the channels I tested as a marketer, email continually outperforms most of them. Just look at ecommerce sites like Amazon: One way they get you to continually buy more products from them is by emailing you offers on a regular basis.
We just started using MailChimp because it seems to be the only one that offers a free account for small or new users. The problem is that there are so many steps for a potential subscriber to go through with both double opt-in and recaptcha, that we are getting at best complaints to worst, plain nasty comments posted on our Facebook page. We don’t know how many would be subscribers we lost because of this.

Then, Aweber automatically grabs their email address and name and puts it into your list. Neil Patel tested this a while ago on his blog, QuickSprout.com, and saw a higher conversion rate than on his regular email opt-in form. The primary reason for this is, like the Lead Pages strategy above, Facebook already knows your email so if you’re logged in the form is prefilled with your email address. Thus, it’s just 1 click to opt-in. If you don’t use Aweber but have some extra cash laying around to invest in your blog, consider posting this feature or plugin project as a job on Elance or Freelancer.com. The results could pay for themselves.
Opt-in popup is a part of the Bloom plugin from Elegant Themes. It has been exclusively made for WordPress and enables you to add popups to your web site for email list building. The best part about this tool is that it comes pre-loaded with a range of templates from which you’ll be able to choose, and then you can customize colors, text, and fonts from there.
Instead of showing the same form asking for their name and email address, Hubspot allows you to identify this lead and show a different offer, or ask a different set of questions to learn more about them over time. This is called Progressive profiling – and it allows you to send more personalised email campaigns as you gather more information on your leads.

The best email copywriting starts with the subject line, which has to make new subscribers want to open your email. Follow that with an appealing headline so they’ll keep reading. Constant Contact’s research suggests that email copy should be short, around 200 words. It’s also wise to avoid being promotional in all your emails. Instead, offer value to your subscribers. The most important part is the call to action which helps improve your email open rate by leading recipients from the email to your landing pages or blog post.
Where they can improve: Autoresponders are on the basic side – just enough to set up the most simple triggered campaigns. It doesn’t come with a huge template range, either (and none on the free plan), so you’ll probably need to use their visual editor to create your own. Finally, it doesn’t offer a spam or design testing feature – if you wanted these, they’d need to be performed externally.
When you flip through the Ikea catalog, do you ever wish you could see how, say, a certain bookshelf and desk would look in your space? You can! Its free, easy-to-use home planner tools allow you to configure your floor plan, choose from the store’s gallery of furniture and decor, calculate the cost, and then print out and take the list to your local Ikea store.
It makes sense right? Afterall, why do you need the same email address opt-in more than once — you don’t! Here is the ONLY example I’ve seen of someone doing this on their blog, and it comes from Brennan Dunn who I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know personally in the last year. I’ll let the pictures do the talking then I’ll summarize…   That’s step 1, and here’s step 2…   And then here’s the result: Pretty awesome right? If you look closely, you can even see that the point after the traffic settles down after the third spike is higher than the “valleys” after the first two spikes. I don’t know of any tools to recommend that make this easy (though I plan to have my developer create a plugin for WordPress when I get around to it in the future).
