What we liked: We think Benchmark have done a great job of design, in both their minimalist interface and their modern, mobile-responsive email templates. We also like that automations are presented in a workflow editor, and that they offer automation templates to help you start setting up your workflows quickly and easily. Plus, there’s a free plan that gives you access to most features, and lets you send 14,000 emails per month (for up to 2,000 subscribers).

Haven’t used email marketing as much as I should. Previously, we tried using ImnicaMail because of their pricing but it was as good as not having an email marketing campaign; all our mail was sent to spam (since they did not manage their customers’ list for spam). We also love how consistent the design of Uber's emails is with its brand. Like its app, website, social media photos, and other parts of the visual branding, the emails are represented by bright colors and geometric patterns. All of its communications and marketing assets tell the brand's story -- and brand consistency is one tactic Uber's nailed in order to gain brand loyalty.
AR/VR and BIM — AR/VR has already begun to seep into the installation field, and for good reason. VR gives you the ability to study extensive 3D models in a whole new way. As AR merges the real world with a virtual environment, users can test to see how a piece fits into the whole of a building, and anticipate clashes early. These capabilities are already huge advantages to BIM users, as they allow users to see their designs from a fresh perspective. They will become more of an asset as AR/VR continues to develop rapidly.

What we liked: Ecommerce is definitely Omnisend’s strong suit. The range and depth of integrations available with online stores is impressive. Plus, there’s a free plan that lets you send up to 15,000 emails per month (max. 2,000 per day).
Email design matters in any successful email marketing campaign. If your emails look terrible, that reflects badly on you, and can make people stop reading. With more people than ever reading emails on mobile devices, it’s important to use a responsive email template so your email resizes automatically whether people are reading it on a phone, tablet, or desktop.

Another poor email marketing tactic you should never take advantage of is purchasing pre-made email lists. You should build up your email list with people who have a genuine interest in your company. Purchasing a pre-existing email list is a bad idea for many reasons, but mostly because it can provide you with unqualified people who will be less likely to have a genuine interest in your brand and more likely to unsubscribe from your emails or even report them as spam.

Use personalization. Personalizing the content of your emails (depending on your segment from Chapter 3) will make it so much more relevant and valuable to them. Personalization goes beyond sticking your subscriber’s first name into the email. You need to tailor the actual content of the email to address their needs. For instance, an online retailer will find it much more valuable to read an email with the subject line, “How to build backlinks to your eCommerce store” than just a generic subject line, “How to build backlinks.”

2) I would set up ManyContacts on my site to push signups from any page on my site. Jason Acidre already put together a pretty thorough post on this tool on his blog, but essentially it’s a bar that will stand stationary at the top of your site as the user scrolls. It’s a pretty obvious call to action, and has lead to a vast increase in email sign ups for thousands of sites. The beauty is, this tool has a nice admin panel whereby you can view analytics of the amount of new contacts you get, and the integration with MailChimp automatically imports any new contacts into your designated list.
Email can accommodate almost any message a marketer wants to send. For instance, UrbanDaddy.com, a nightlife website, ran a highly successful email marketing campaign by including large, eye catching images in the header of the email. The images were geared toward a young male demographic and gave the email context. They encouraged the reader to scroll down and engage with the sales messages contained in the body of the email. A number of startups have focused on mobile-first efforts, the most notable is likely Haiku Deck, that launched their mobile app in 2010. Email marketing may be a great way to reach your current and past customers and influence direct conversions, but social media can also be a valuable tactic for advertising your holiday promotions. Overall, social media channels have a much higher engagement rate than email marketing – consumers are more likely to share social media content from brands than they are email content.
