The best email copywriting starts with the subject line, which has to make new subscribers want to open your email. Follow that with an appealing headline so they’ll keep reading. Constant Contact’s research suggests that email copy should be short, around 200 words. It’s also wise to avoid being promotional in all your emails. Instead, offer value to your subscribers. The most important part is the call to action which helps improve your email open rate by leading recipients from the email to your landing pages or blog post.
As you’re drafting your messages, pay as much attention to the spam score reported by your account provider as you do the content of your emails. No matter how effective the subject line you’ll always have subscribers who don’t open it for a variety of reasons. Send your email again specifically targeting a list segment of those who didn’t open the first time around. Not only is this a second chance in case they just missed the first email, it’s another opportunity to further split test subject lines as well as send times.
But since you can’t just judge a message’s quality by your own perceptions (as the members of your list will have diverse interests and viewpoints), you can also take a look at the analytics information provided by your email marketing account provider to see which messages have been opened and which emails have been accessed most frequently. This should give you some insight into the message topics your audience finds most compelling.

First of all, BuzzFeed has awesome subject lines and preview text. They are always short and punchy -- which fits in perfectly with the rest of BuzzFeed's content. I especially love how the preview text will accompany the subject line. For example, if the subject line is a question, the preview text is the answer. Or if the subject line is a command (like the one below), the preview text seems like the next logical thought right after it:

It makes sense right? Afterall, why do you need the same email address opt-in more than once — you don’t! Here is the ONLY example I’ve seen of someone doing this on their blog, and it comes from Brennan Dunn who I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know personally in the last year. I’ll let the pictures do the talking then I’ll summarize… That’s step 1, and here’s step 2… And then here’s the result: Pretty awesome right? If you look closely, you can even see that the point after the traffic settles down after the third spike is higher than the “valleys” after the first two spikes. I don’t know of any tools to recommend that make this easy (though I plan to have my developer create a plugin for WordPress when I get around to it in the future). Free courses convert better than just about anything. How do I know? The total number of optins we’ve received on the free course we offer here on autogrow.co over the last 2 months are about 20% less than the total number of optins we’ve received for ALL of our content upgrades and basic newsletter subscribers combined. That’s significant but it also makes sense. If you offer a free email course on a subject or a question that resonates with your audience, you can expect that it will do well. Neil Patel over at Quick Sprout has built up his email list to just under 200,000 subscribers over the last several years largely because of his email course offer. Here another example from my friend, Brennan Dunn, over at Planscope.io who has built up his email list to over 15,000 subscribers in just under 2 years.
Ideally, email marketing should go hand-in-hand with social media. Adding social media "Like" or "Share" buttons to your marketing emails gives an additional way for customers to connect with your brand. Snippets of positive reviews from social media fans can be included in emails, and conversely, social media postings can be used to encourage fans to subscribe to your email newsletters.
The first step to starting an email marketing campaign is to gather an email list. Before a potential subscriber provides you with their email address, there are a few questions they are likely to consider. Will you spam them? What do they have to gain from giving you their email address? Will you send special discounts? Will you make their email address public or sell it? You’re going to want to make it clear to would-be subscribers that they will benefit from subscribing to your email list and you will not spam them or give anyone else their email address.
The above template is partially based on the “Break Through Email” system that’s been used to generate millions of dollars in sales for it’s founder, as well as his students of the course. The format is a bit different but it’s a good starting point to help you get results. To setup the landing page, you can use one of the recommended tools above like Lead Pages, or Unbounce, or Instapage. There’s also plenty of free HTML templates online you can download. Cold Email Case Study Years ago, I used cold email campaigns to generate leads via… surveys. Yes, I was obnoxious (and scrappy enough) to email strangers — but I did it out of love! (or ignorance haha) I knew a lot less about how to be an effective marketer back then, but I was willing to try just about anything without assuming “oh that just wouldn’t work.” So, when I was working on building a previous company, I sent an email to several thousand restaurant owners with a link to fill out a 5 question Google survey. That campaign received a response rate just over 1%. I sent the campaign just to collect some research data for a whitepaper I was writing at the time on how weather and other factors affect restaurant sales. About 2 years later, I ran a similar experiment, emailing business owner (with no personalization or any strategic thought in how to target it) and received relatively the same response rate. Keep in mind, in both of these situations, I was taking value rather than giving it (but still getting results!). If you try this strategy and offer something for free THAT IS VALUABLE and to a TARGETED group of people (as you should, otherwise you’re just spamming), you can expect to see a much higher response rate. However, I urge you not to abuse this. Otherwise you’ll poison the well for other companies and hurt your own brand.
Use it as a lead magnet/free mini-course. You can also use an autoresponder as a lead magnet to attract new subscribers to your email list. This is commonly done in the form of a free “mini-course”, or a free “challenge”, which promises to deliver a series of emails containing lessons (or other valuable information) over the course of several days or weeks. There is a high perceived value with a mini-course or a challenge like this, which makes it a very effective lead magnet.
3. I’m a stickler for free stuff, and Noah Kagan’s SumoMe suite of free subscription tools are awesome. It’s very easy to add a smart pop-up or slide-in to your page, and “Leads” add-on is absolutely amazing! Use it to add content upgrade incentives into your post in order to gain email subscribers. Brian Dean does it on his blog with LeadPages on his site, but SumoMe Leads is a great, more cost effective way of achieving the same thing.

So I dabbed with main email marketing services and the one that managed to really “Stick” with me was “Omnisend”. Great automation workflows – don’t have to worry about anything, welcome, birthday, cart recovery emails. As well as amazing newsletter builder. Just all in all a flexible tool for not as flexible audience.
Zapier is also a freeium service like Mailchimp and Wufoo, but it’s focus is on helping you automate tasks between different web apps and sites. The smartest way (little known way) you can use Zapier is to set it up to automatically post Tweets and Facebook posts at regular intervals with a link to a landing page. Followers and fans can click the link to sign-up for your newsletter or autoresponder course.
2) One of the those being Capsule CRM. As a training company, many of our email subscribers are customers that we’ve met in person. Capsule CRM makes it easy to export them into Mailchimp. One feature I particularly like is that Capsule lets you filter contacts by tags and dates – and then export them into a new Mailchimp campaign e.g. we regularly setup a campaign to email an offer to people that have been on an SEO introduction course within the last 3 months but have not yet been on the SEO intermediate course. This works really well!

One of the downsides of email marketing is that you are only able to reach the contacts that you already have. However, you can use social media to help you grow your email marketing list so that you have an even larger audience for your holiday sales.
