When I think about the brands I like best, like J. Crew, Spotify, and SoulCycle, I know I’m not a loyal brand advocate because of their products alone. It’s one of those intuitive ideas that you might have kind of known in the back of your head, but as soon as you hear it you’re like, “Wow, that makes perfect sense.” Here’s the jist of the “Scale the Peaks” strategy (and a reader warning, it’s heavy stuff so try to stay focused for the next few lines):

An example from MarketingProfs is shown here. The language you choose can play a big role in how successful these campaigns are, so be sure to split-test a few versions to maximize response.
What is email marketing? Basically the use of email to promote products and/or services. But a better email marketing definition is the use of email to develop relationships with potential customers and/or clients. Email marketing is one segment of internet marketing, which encompasses online marketing via websites, social media, blogs, etc. It is essentially the same as direct mail except that instead of sending mail through the postal service, messages are sent electronically via email.
I think this email also makes quite a brilliant use of responsive design. The colors are bright, and it's not too hard to scroll and click -- notice the CTAs are large enough for me to hit with my thumbs. Also, the mobile email actually has features that make sense for recipients who are on their mobile device. Check out the CTA at the bottom of the email, for example: The "Open Stitcher Radio" button prompts the app to open on your phone.
Mixergy.com helped to popularize this strategy. The idea is that in order to gain entry to a website’s content, you have to enter your email address on the homepage. One you do so, a cookie is set on your browser so the next time you come back to the site you don’t have to fill in your email again to get access. There have been a number of off-shoots of this strategy. For example, Noah Kagen used a similar strategy to help grow Appsumo’s email list to over 700,000 subscribers in record time by having this simple newsletter call-to-action sitting above the page content… But wait, there’s more to AppSumo’s “improved gateway” email capture strategy. It’s so simple, most people would miss it if they weren’t looking closely… Here it is: Any content page you visit (outside of their Browse page) will show you this header design by default… And you’ll continuously be shown this call-to-action… until you optin. So even if I’m searching for something on Google and I come across a subpage one one of AppSumo’s older offers, I’m going to see this optin header. I like how this is implemented because it’s less “annoying” that the other types of gateway email optins because I can easily bypass it… but at the same time I’ll keep being exposed to it until I sign-up. I guarantee you, this was one big factor in why AppSumo was able to grow their email list so quickly. But I’ll ask Noah just to confirm and update this section later on…

The first clickable web ad was sold by Global Network Navigator in 1993 to a Silicon Valley law firm. Online advertising may use geo-targeting to display relevant advertisements to the user's geography. Advertisers can customize each individual ad to a particular user based on the user's previous preferences. Advertisers can also track whether a visitor has already seen a particular ad in order to reduce unwanted repetitious exposures and provide adequate time gaps between exposures.
Free courses convert better than just about anything. How do I know? The total number of optins we’ve received on the free course we offer here on autogrow.co over the last 2 months are about 20% less than the total number of optins we’ve received for ALL of our content upgrades and basic newsletter subscribers combined. That’s significant but it also makes sense. If you offer a free email course on a subject or a question that resonates with your audience, you can expect that it will do well. Neil Patel over at Quick Sprout has built up his email list to just under 200,000 subscribers over the last several years largely because of his email course offer. Here another example from my friend, Brennan Dunn, over at Planscope.io who has built up his email list to over 15,000 subscribers in just under 2 years.

However, when it comes to sending your messages, the last thing you want to do is to use your Gmail or Hotmail account. Instead, sign up for an established email marketing provider like Aweber or MailChimp (which offers free, limited usage plans to small business owners). Not only do these services offer great features like message templates and account analytics, the arrangements they have with popular email services ensure that your messages are delivered – not hung up in your recipients’ spam folders.
I have tested all the above, I found that the best editor by far is Wix. They have elements that others don’t have such as being able to use your own fonts and delete elements in templates. However their customer support is really bad. They refer you to their on line tutorials and make it incredibly difficult to actually speak to them when you need to. I had something random happen that was not addressed In their online help section. It took a lot of searching to work out how to submit a help ticket. There is no chat and although they say you can call them, that number is not there. When I finally found how to submit a support ticket, which was buried, they did not reply to it. My account showed I had submitted a ticket but they just didn’t deal with it. I also read many other people complaining about the same thing. Its a real shame. Because its so important to get support, as in my case the random technical error meant I had to take the site down, and they just didn’t get back to me. I found a close second to be My website builder, and they provide chat support.
Brian. You talk about how all these variables matter in getting this article to rank #1 for “list building” and how competitors have way more links than you, but then you also consider your DA and your PA together, you have almost the highest score out of the top 10 rankings; and when you consider you are more topical authority, then that explains why Hugpages (all purpose site) is not ranking higher. Maybe its not all as complicated as you suggest.
Improve brand recognition. Social media ads are also ideal for improving brand recognition. By placing ads on the social media platforms that your target audience frequents most, you can start to build up a larger fan base. The more familiar consumers are with your brand, the more likely they will be to make a purchase—especially when they come across your holiday sale. Try running a brand awareness campaign on Facebook prior to your big sale.
Quick note on this before I give examples… While on a recent trip overseas it was explained to me by a fellow entrepreneur local to the area that no one “trusted” it when companies put the logos etc. of third parties on their website. Hopefully it doesn’t get to this point in the USA so I caution you to always use REAL social proof (don’t fake it, or I will find you and… signup for your newsletter with a fake email address just to spite you). If you don’t have any well-know press logos you can use right now, read this article I wrote on how to get free press. This too is discretionary since frequency is really your decision. Plus every niche is different. Many guru’s believe you should email you list every single day. For me personally I think this is a little overkill simply because when I send a message to my list I want it to be something very good so I tend to be selective in what I send instead of looking for ‘something’ to send my list every day just on principal. In my experience people get tired of being bombarded by too many messages that are thin on content or 99% promotional. You need to give before you can get.
At the start of my online career i used to think that list building has no benefits but after doing some research on the topic and starting with the link building thing i came to knew it’s importance. It’s really necessary for website and blog owners to build lists or they’ll just let their selves down because list building is the game changer when Search Engines and Social Media doesn’t work for you.
The Daily Egg is a newsletter from Crazy Egg that is aimed at helping small businesses improve website design and optimization. Notice that there are no images or elaborate design work. However, this newsletter does provide a helpful digest of content that is important to its readers. By providing this important content, the company can work to demonstrate industry knowledge and establish itself as an industry leader. This goes a long way in influencing conversions.

Weebly is a great software. The high rating says that other people are also satisfied with it which is always nice. I have a free account there and I like creating websites with it. I’m still considering upgrading to a premium package. However, I’m still not sure how I’ll create my site – I might use a blank template. About WordPress and other CMS options, I think that browsing through the hundreds, upon thousands of available themes could is very time consuming, and results in failure of finding the right theme for a certain subject, which leads to confusion. Getting started with a service just makes you take action, it surely helped me.

What's the difference between them? One-off communications versus prolonged, email-based interactions. For example, email marketing tools are excellent for one-off communications. You can use these tools for the one time you'd like to send someone an automated email response when they join a subscriber list, on their birthday, or when you promote a new product. But marketing automation tools are better suited for prolonged, email-based interactions. For example, you can use marketing automation tools whenever you want to guide someone from a subscriber list to a product purchase. Or you can send thank you emails or send new product promotions—all without having to lift a finger after the workflow is designed.
