Travel blogger @Anna Everywhere has an Instagram full of stunning photo shoots in amazing locations around the world. She is incredibly stylish, and many people send her messages asking where she buys her clothes, so to help with that - even though this is not the focus point of the picture, she will include a link to the product below the image. The image below is from Waikiki, and she mentions her bikini after everything she has to say about the location. She also doesn’t link to products in every single post that she does.
Conducting a Webstagram search is an excellent way to find popular relevant hashtags for your business in a fraction of the time it would take to do so if you were searching them out yourself directly from Instagram. You can tailor your search simply by entering relevant keywords to your business into the search bar at the top of the page. The platform is free and easy to use, so it is totally worth doing a quick Webstagram search as you try to identify key information relevant to your Instagram marketing strategy. When you do a Webstagram search, the site generates a list of the most popular related hashtags and users on Instagram, and from there, you can both find the best tags to include on your photos as well as potential influencers.
To tap into these audiences, brands are keen to become involved with social media influencers. This has become so in-demand that now, specialised companies that have seen the growth pattern help businesses link up with influencers in their industry. Brands that manage to get in front of influencers see their products promoted to an audience already attuned to what the influencers have to say. These warm markets are more likely to buy, without resorting to pressurised marketing techniques.
If you’re not getting the types of collaborations you’re hoping for through e-mails alone, you can be proactive and reach out to brands yourselves. Do a little google sleuthing to find their PR / media contact. Sometimes it’s as easy as a media enquiries e-mail address on the brand’s contact page, but more often than not brands make you work for it. I usually google “pr / media / press [at ] company [dot ] com” to see if the e-mail address shows up and will sometimes get lucky this way. Sometimes I’ll comment on a brand’s latest Instagram post with a note saying I sent them a DM (since brand accounts are usually handled by their social media manager, who either also handles collaborations or works closely with the PR department that does). Sometimes I get a media contact through a blogger friend. There are lots of ways to find the right e-mail address and, if all else fails, you can always try contacting the general help desk to see if they’re able to give you the right contact.

Whatever you showcase on your blog or Instagram – be it good photography, writing, interior design, fashion styling – there may be people who are interested in hiring you for these skills and not for you to promote anything on your channels. I’ve worked with several brands on a photography basis (I photograph their content for them without necessarily posting anything to my Instagram or blog) and I’ve also been hired to makeover a brand’s Instagram account. These sort of opportunities usually come to you but you can also try actively reaching out to brands who you think you would be a good fit for.
Shopping on Instagram has been around for about a year, but has been reserved only for select businesses based in the US. However, in March 2018, Instagram rolled out Shopping on Instagram across the globe. This feature is now available for 45+ countries and counting. It is also accessible to any business or influencer who has an Instagram Business account (although you will first need to get your account approved for shopping).

Like them or hate them, hashtags make a difference. They improve the discoverability of posts and drive likes and comments. The key point here is relevance. Use the hashtags that correspond to your niche. Carry out research and pay attention to the tags your competitors use in their posts. Incorporate some branded hashtags to raise awareness, like the name of the promoted product or any other related tag. Let your creativity flow. Instagram allows to use up to 30 hashtags per post, but be careful not to go overboard. The optimal number of hashtags for maximum engagement is 11.

Was möchte dein Publikum überhaupt für Inhalte sehen?
On Instagram, hashtags are your best friend. They’ll put your post in front of thousands more people. That will earn you more followers, and, hopefully, more sales. Make sure you add relevant hashtags to all posts promoting the product or service. Going back to our health food blogger example, she might add hashtags like #healthyliving and #cleaneating to her affiliate posts.

Now that we have understood who an Instagram Influencer is, let’s take a look at the  most popular Instagram influencers these days. You can be in the search of daily inspiration or simply wanting to follow the most popular personalities on Instagram. Regardless, Instagram offers a wide variety of content and influencers that anyone can choose from based on your own preferences. We created a top 10 list of Instagram Influencers based on their followers.

As for Instagram, having a business account makes it even easier for brands to contact you but I would personally shy away from switching since there’s a lot of whisper in the blogging world that Instagram will soon make business accounts pay to get their content seen by anyone. If you’re interested in reading more of my thoughts, check out my Instagram growth blog post – point #10).

Continuing the conversation about engagement, when recruiting influencers, review which posts garner the most comments. Are the most popular posts personal ones with animals, quotes or kids? Does the influencer get engagement on sponsored, product specific or affiliate posts? What type of comments do the posts receive? For instance, if the comments refer to the individual’s beauty or the creative aspect of the photo, it will generate fewer sales than posts where the followers ask specific questions about the product.
Facebook users may be declining, but there are still billions of users to segment and target. In the example below, the influencer goes one step further than simply showing the products she’s promoting. She also includes a video overview of her experience. This approach is important because followers don’t have to make a decision based solely on her word: they can watch her use the product and make a decision based on that. Using video also gives an authentic feel to the campaign because it’s easier for followers to imagine that this influencer uses these products.
Offer More than Just Instagram Expertise – Employers will often want all of their social media platforms managed for them. If you can offer social media marketing and management across a range of platforms you will be in much more of a demand. A quick Google search will bring up a range of online courses to help get you started as a social media guru.
I promote many products and services, so I wouldn’t want to use my link to market only one. On the other hand, you might be focused and very passionate about promoting one item. You could add your affiliate link—shortened, cloaked or branded—to your profile or create an account specifically for that item. For instance, you’re passionate about writing and want to promote Grammarly, a free grammar checker, and vocabulary enhancement app. You create an account called @awesomewriter and posts writing tips and motivational quotes. Your bio reads, “Improve your writing with this free software app. Click below to learn more. #Ad.”
Influencer marketing is on the up, as demonstrated by an online survey conducted by Influencermarketinghub.com. Statistics devised from the survey show that the search term “influencer marketing” has increased by 325% in 12 months, and a large proportion of businesses are seeing a return of roughly seven times their investment. In response, businesses are increasing the amount spent on influencer marketing.
There will always be plenty of brands that reach out to you who don’t have budget beyond simply free gifting. When you’re first starting out, that’s only natural as you don’t yet have as much to offer when it comes to your online reach. Collaborating on a free gifting basis allows you to build up your credibility, your brand, and open the doors for future collaborations because you’re able to showcase that you make a great spokesperson for a brand. But there comes a point when ( a ) the novelty of getting stuff for free wears off and ( b ) you realize that you’re providing brands with something of value and that you should be fairly compensated for that. The expectation by so many brands that influencers do work for free is something that really irks me. In what other profession would you do work and not get paid for it, whether or not you’re just starting out in the industry? Sure, you might just make a little above minimum wage, but you’re definitely being paid something. Yes, smaller brands and those just starting out probably won’t have a huge marketing budget and I still sometimes work on a gifting basis if it’s a brand I firmly believe in and want to build a long-term relationship with. But when companies that have been around for years and have built up a successful brand themselves don’t value you and your work enough to feel you should be paid? It’s a slap in the face, to be honest. Ladies (and gentlemen), please know your worth and don’t feel pressure to do free (or underpaid) work. It’s better to say no and save yourself the time and hassle. When you say no to working for free, you’re leaving yourself open to collaborations with brands who are willing to pay you fairly. You only have a limited number of hours to do work each week and, most likely, you also have a limited number of sponsored posts you want to do each week to keep your Instagram feed and blog from appearing too sales-pitchy. Leave those coveting slots open for brands who value you.
I’m also going to adjust the strategy by stopping the prizes. I will also post more personalizd images on my profile such as of my family and leverage female and lifestyle accounts to promote me. For example, I may do a video Skype session with a female model, create a screenshot of it, and have her post it on her Instagram profile, with a mention of me giving her business or marketing advice.
