Natalie Mortimer and Holly Erickson are the women behind The Modern Proper. Currently with over 90k followers, they have gained much popularity after they were finalists for Saveur’s Best Home-Cooked Food Blog in 2016. They have been praised for their modern approach at preparing simple yet delicious meals, which is very well presented in their Instagram posts.

Brands like to see an example of the type of post you would create for them so make sure you have some samples posted. If you want to do reviews, review some of your favourite products (even if they’re not sponsored by the brand). If you want fashion brands to give you clothing for outfits posts, make sure you have lots of outfit posts with clothes you already own. If you want to get a hotel to comp your stay as a travel blogger, have posts from previous trips that highlight the hotel you stayed at (even if you paid for it yourself). Brands want to feel confident that the work you provide for them will be in line with their marketing goals and what better way to show them than with some samples of your previous work.
Because of the success of social media influencers, they are highly sought after. Before choosing which products to promote, there are several factors they take into consideration before making that decision. Although influencers are rewarded for their efforts in these campaigns, either through a payment or free goods, they can be very particular about what products to promote.
So now you know the 5+ handy ways to make money through Instagram, you’re all set to start building your empire. Whatever avenue you decide to go down, be sure to always keep your personal brand in mind and treat what you do as a business. The more you understand what it is you can offer, the stronger your message will be to potential collaborators!
Instagram – Instagram excels with brand exposure, but the UI makes it less likely that followers will click to purchase. The scrolling style of viewing posts as well as the link only being available in the bio lends itself to quick Likes and fewer clicks. However, I have seen some Instagram influencers succeed using Instagram Stories.Instagram Stories provide the personal one on one engagement feel that lends itself to conversions as well as an explanation on how followers can click on the affiliate link.

High Cost/Low Effort — Get an agency to send you potential Influencers. Talent agencies like Viral Nation or MediaKix work with a stable of popular social Influencers who you can connect with for a fee. Unless you’ve got money to burn, and are looking to launch a huge Instagram Influencer campaign, this option is probably one to avoid for now. But hey, it’s there if you want to go big!
Swipe up! Also swipe up!

Shopping on Instagram has been around for about a year, but has been reserved only for select businesses based in the US. However, in March 2018, Instagram rolled out Shopping on Instagram across the globe. This feature is now available for 45+ countries and counting. It is also accessible to any business or influencer who has an Instagram Business account (although you will first need to get your account approved for shopping).

Since Instagram started in 2010, influencers have flocked to the platform to increase their audience, traffic, followers and engagement. With 29% of Instagram’s top posts coming from influencers or brand ambassadors, they are dominating the game when it comes to user generated content, and with statistics showing that Instagram has over 700 million monthly users it is now over twice the size of twitter. This isn’t something that should be ignored, especially for brands when they are looking at Instagram affiliate marketing strategies.

Hi Stef, so sorry to hear you still haven’t gotten your money back. Ugh how frustrating! After the fact I’ve heard several not-so-great accounts of Modern Thrive so I am definitely much more careful now. I’ve reported her as well to the Consumer Protection Agency and to Instagram, but I’m not sure it’s helped. At least in terms of content, I’ve now covered everything I would have covered during the workshop and lots more in these three posts. It’s the least I can do!
I don’t have experience with all that many influencer networks so I can’t give a comprehensive review or even list them all. Those that I’ve got decent to good experience with are Popular Pays (my favourite Instagram influencer app and where I got my very first paid gig last summer, with one of my favourite brands no less), Social Fabric (although most of their gigs are US only and they’re vigilant about that), Muse Find and Revfluence. I also signed up for the following networks, but haven’t gotten much (or even any) work through them: Collabor8, Collectively, IZEA, Linqia, Nichify, and TapInfluence. Some of these don’t pay well versus others I just haven’t been contacted much, which could be because I’m based in Canada and a lot of these influencer networks focus on US brands who want US influencers (even though my reach in the US is about the same as fellow US-based mom bloggers).
Of course there is much more to say about Affiliate marketing and Instagram strategies and that's why I created Whole Course about this with my proven strategies where I will show you everything step by step. I do this every single day and I've tested a lot strategies and techniques. If you want to know more – you can click first link in descripton.
Whilst most influencer networks focus on social media, there are some that also have heavy focus on blog. Social Fabric is the only blog influencer platform I have experience with and their rates are fixed. This was great in the beginning as I actually got a few blog gigs that paid a little more than what brands who e-mailed me were offering. If I get the chance to research more in depth which platforms do blog and how they pay, I’ll make sure to update this post.
As for Instagram, having a business account makes it even easier for brands to contact you but I would personally shy away from switching since there’s a lot of whisper in the blogging world that Instagram will soon make business accounts pay to get their content seen by anyone.
