You will see that I created a simple image with some selling features, noting the SALE, warranty, RETURNS and a big SWIPE UP which was pointing to my http://bit.ly/amazonferrariwatch URL I created from the Amazon Associates Affiliate Offering code (yea it’s a mouthful) but it’s the big long messy URL in the image below (which is from Bit.ly dashboard). This is an amazing officially licensed Ferrari watch backed with a 2 year warranty and FREE returns. It doesn’t get any nicer of a “sell” than offering all these things to an automotive enthusiast following like I have!
On the other hand, if your goal is to get people to promote your product or service, special offers, discounts and more through channels other than social media, then use affiliate marketing. Target bloggers, companies and publishers with content that complements or relates to your brand base. Understand your customers’ needs and their interests so that you speak to your target audience about what matters most to them. If you sell workout gear, then partner with health and fitness publishers that focus on weight loss, healthy eating and more. This approach of speaking to specific customers with specific needs works because affiliate marketing is designed to generate leads and help you grow your revenue.
Another great way to get the most out of Instagram influencers in your affiliate program is to host a product giveaway with them. Influencers love running giveaways because they receive excellent engagement from them and gain a lot of new followers in the process. When you structure the giveaway with the influencer you do want to make sure that it’s not one sided and you get some new followers for your social media accounts as well. At the end of the day, it’s a great way to get some new followers and get some great marketing out there for the cost of your product, which is usually a brand’s preferred currency.
When an Instagrammer posts a product picture on Instagram, they usually tag the brand they are promoting in the comment as well as a link to the specific product. This means that when people are browsing and reading the comments your brand will be on the eyes of potential customers. If they click on the tag, they will be directed to your Instagram page, and if they copy and paste the link to the product you will gain more traffic so it’s a win-win situation.

Was möchte(n) Ihre Zielgruppe(n)?
Pick a Niche – When businesses look for influencers to promote their products, they want someone who has a following made up of people in their niche. Popular niches on Instagram include fashion, health, and fitness, travel and cookery, to name a few. Choose a niche that is relevant to your lifestyle and then post images, and build your audience around this subject. You will then become a valuable influencer to businesses in your particular industry.
So, how much should you charge for a post? There’s no hard rule, but the general consensus is $5-$10 CPM (cost per thousand) for Instagram. For Instagram that means you’ll charge $5-$10 for every 1,000 followers, So someone with 10,000 followers would charge $50-$100, whilst someone with 1 million followers would charge $5,000-$10,000 per Instagram post. Which end of the spectrum your Instagram rate falls on depends on a lot of factors – your engagement, the quality of photo you’re producing, how competitive you want to be. Personally, if you’ve got good engagement (most brands look for at least 2-4%) and you’re producing high-quality photos, then I think you can and should charge closer to $10 CPM.
There are dozens of affiliate marketing programs available which you can sign up with. Therefore, you need to choose the correct niche for you. If you known to trend on Instagram because of fashion, then you should choose a fashion affiliate program. However, if your Instagram followers follow you because of fitness, then you should to go for the fitness affiliate program. In a nutshell, always choose a program which your audience will relate well with.
Don’t Buy Fake Followers – Although brands might be impressed at first glance with your follower numbers, it won’t take long for them to realize that your audience isn’t worth paying for. A few clicks to check on engagement levels and how your followers have responded to your posts will tell them that you have bought your followers, not organically grown your audience. This isn’t the type of audience that will get results for businesses, and consequently, people won’t want to pay you to promote their posts.
Include relevant information about the photograph and ask a question to your followers. This is important to drive engagement to your posts and it gives people the information they are looking for. Geo-tagging can help when customers want to find out where something is. A blogger utilising geo-tagging might include where they are in the photograph, while brands should geo-tag store locations to make it easier for people to find.
Like them or hate them, hashtags make a difference. They improve the discoverability of posts and drive likes and comments. The key point here is relevance. Use the hashtags that correspond to your niche. Carry out research and pay attention to the tags your competitors use in their posts. Incorporate some branded hashtags to raise awareness, like the name of the promoted product or any other related tag. Let your creativity flow. Instagram allows to use up to 30 hashtags per post, but be careful not to go overboard. The optimal number of hashtags for maximum engagement is 11.

Influencer networks are companies that connect bloggers and influencers with brands. Some will have you apply for campaigns yourself while others will contact you if they have a brand who’s interested in you. For those networks where you apply yourself, they’ll have either a web platform or a phone app where you go in and look at all of the open campaigns and apply to those that interest you. Sometimes they’ll let you come up with a pitch that includes a rate you decide on yourself, other times it will be a fixed rate and you can decide if this amount is worth the effort of applying for and then, if you get picked, doing the work involved. Influencer networks can be a great tool, especially when you’re first starting out and want the chance to work with some bigger brands that might not yet have you on their radar.
As you might already know, Instagram has made it possible and easy to switch between your personal and business accounts. Setting up a business profile has a number of advantages. It allows you to get access to real-time analytics and view the engagement metrics on particular posts. Users, in turn, can reach out to you by tapping the Contact button and taking a specific action afterwards, like making a call or sending you an email. In 2016, Instagram rolled out a new option for business accounts – Instagram for Business. It’s a great way to put the promoted product in front of your target audience in a few simple steps. Upgrade your business profile to Instagram for Business. Create a compelling, eye-catching post featuring the product. Select the target audience, budget, promotional content, CTA, and duration of the promotion. Once it’s done, you will see the button “Promote” under your post and be able to start running your ad on Instagram!
But to make money with affiliate marketing you need to get a affiliate link to a product that you promote and you need to put this link in your description. You can easily by the end of the next week have over 1000 followers…and let’s say that only 10% will click your affiliate link and only 5% will buy using your affilaite link and I really low ball it because Instagram is really on fire when you know how to use it.

I personally use Reward Style, which is a little more exclusive (there’s an application process involved). It’s more fashion based, which is not as ideal for me, and as thus I’ve recently signed up for Link Share (Rakukaten) as well. To give you an idea, I’m making about $100 per month (which is really not a lot) with Reward Style – meaning blog visitors are spending about $1500-2000 through affiliate links. I only link about 20% of my links through them though, since a lot of the home decor / baby items I share on my blog aren’t part of the Reward Style program. Once I’ve had some experience with other affiliate programs and how well they work for a lifestyle blogger like myself, I’ll make sure to update this post.
Very interesting experiment and read. I know that IG can be very successful for my industry (powersports) though I don’t use it much. As a father I know that youth in my area perfer IG to FB and other social media outlets. I wonder if a new account with $57k in advertising would have done as well as the $15k existing account with $42k in advertising over the same time period?
The bulk of the money that I earn through blogging and Instagram is through sponsored collaborations. Essentially, a brand or shop will provide me with one or more products and I will incorporate them into an Instagram or blog post (or two, or three). How do you go about getting sponsored collaborations? By working with brands that reach out to you and/or by reaching out to your favourite brands to see if they want to collaborate.
It’s highly advisable when working with influencers in your affiliate program to work out an agreement with them where they get some free product and create their own content for their feed featuring your product. Followers are a lot more likely to engage with a sponsored post that has a personal touch attached to it. The ultimate reason we work with influencers in the first place is because they influence people to buy certain products. There’s no better way to do this than with a personalized post consisting of product you gave to them.
Offer More than Just Instagram Expertise – Employers will often want all of their social media platforms managed for them. If you can offer social media marketing and management across a range of platforms you will be in much more of a demand. A quick Google search will bring up a range of online courses to help get you started as a social media guru.
This is a great way to get noticed by a brand and maybe even have them repost your photo, which is great for growth. But even better yet, if you get on their radar they might just contact you for a collaboration. At the very least, it’s great for brands who are thinking of working with you to see that you do product placement on your Instagram (whether or not the brands you tag actually paid you or not). I wouldn’t go overboard, though, and tag every single item in every single photo. Just whatever happens to be prominent in the photo or whatever people typically ask you about in your comments. For example, I get a lot of questions about my IKEA learning tower hack so I actually created a separate Instagram account with the tutorial link so I can tag that account (@ikealearningtower) in every one of my kitchen photos because I know there will be someone interested in that info.
An influencer can also choose to shorten the non-linkable URL that they include in their Instagram post by using bit.ly. If we “bit.ly” this link to AP’s blog, www.accelerationpartners.com/blog, it would look like http://bit.ly/1SwgojI. The affiliate simply inputs their affiliate link into a link shortener tool to get the shortened link. The Instagram follower would then copy/paste this link into their browser which would redirect them through an affiliate link to the merchants site.

Instagram – Instagram excels with brand exposure, but the UI makes it less likely that followers will click to purchase. The scrolling style of viewing posts as well as the link only being available in the bio lends itself to quick Likes and fewer clicks. However, I have seen some Instagram influencers succeed using Instagram Stories.Instagram Stories provide the personal one on one engagement feel that lends itself to conversions as well as an explanation on how followers can click on the affiliate link.
