The main distinction now between affiliate and influencer marketing is simply the channel itself and the way the influencer is paid. Affiliate marketing sees affiliates paid based on web traffic performance (CPA) while influencer marketing sees influencers often paid flat fees upfront in return for social traffic performance. Brands now have visibility into the same metrics for both strategies and can access indicators of performance and traffic via Google Analytics for web-based publishers and Instagram Insights for social based publishers. Despite these similarities, influencer and affiliate marketing are still referred to as two separate strategies and are often managed by different teams in the same organization.
Of course, there is always an exception, and that exception is YouTube, Google’s social media darling. While I still prefer to work with influencers who have both a website AND a social media channel, I will take YouTube-only influencers. The in-depth content, high engagement and optimization potential for videos allow them to be an excellent standalone for affiliate marketing. The influencer below does not have a blog but remains a top performer due to niche and high-quality content.

Well… You got me! I am an entrepreneur and found you on Instagram through a model’s post. I own an Internet marketing agency and I think this is absolutely genius what you are doing. I was wondering what models were getting paid to promote on their profiles. I have been reading your blog for the past week and a half and I can already tell you that you will have a loyal follower here already. I may not be your $57,000 ROI but will definitely refer you to other digital marketers. If you are still taking entries for the giveaway, I’d like to get the university course! Haha!
Shopping Links worked with the team at Pepperjam to identify a number of influencers who met not only the traffic requirements but were the right fit in terms of audience and brand alignment – all within Nordstrom Rack’s affiliate marketing budget. A total of three fashion and lifestyle influencers provided increased awareness, traffic and sales together with a boost in brand recognition – without the need for more costly traditional advertising methods.
How exciting that you just started your blogging journey! Hopefully my post has helped steer you in the right direction (here’s the more direct blogging post: http://happygreylucky.com/how-to-start-and-grow-a-successful-lifestyle-blog-in-10-steps/). Other than what I wrote there I would just say stay true to yourself and make sure you’re passionate about what you’re posting. And keep at it! It can be pretty daunting at first but, if you stick with it consistently, hopefully you’ll be able to find some traction.
Wow, this is just amazing. I read your other post about how to grow your instagram account and I have been using your tips ever since. I am fairly new to instagram ( started begging of February 2017), so far I can’t really impressed anyone with the number of followers but slowly moving forward;) Thank you very much for your posts once again and I looking forward to read new ones. Very interesting experiment and read. I know that IG can be very successful for my industry (powersports) though I don’t use it much. As a father I know that youth in my area perfer IG to FB and other social media outlets. I wonder if a new account with $57k in advertising would have done as well as the $15k existing account with $42k in advertising over the same time period?
Since Instagram started in 2010, influencers have flocked to the platform to increase their audience, traffic, followers and engagement. With 29% of Instagram’s top posts coming from influencers or brand ambassadors, they are dominating the game when it comes to user generated content, and with statistics showing that Instagram has over 700 million monthly users it is now over twice the size of twitter. This isn’t something that should be ignored, especially for brands when they are looking at Instagram affiliate marketing strategies.

When you are posting a photo make sure you use relevant tags. Including hashtags means more engagement and likes. To find the best tags for your content you need to research your audience to find out what hashtags they are using on their posts. Posting the most popular tags won’t necessarily help you in the long run. For example, a travel blogger should have travel related tags. If they were to include a hashtag about vitamins it wouldn’t necessarily fit with their content. If you include a hashtag that doesn’t fit with your niche, people will be less likely to engage with you.
