Let your recipients know what you want them to do (sign up for a trial, claim a discount, etc.). An ideal call to action should draw attention, be clear and, of course, be clickable. Design a big button, so it’s easy to click on mobile devices. If your email is long, add another call to action, so your subscribers don’t have to scroll to find it. Make a CTA copy compelling.

Been building a great community of readers over the years but reached a point where I’m losing money maintaining the site and newsletter. As you said, the ads don’t bring much -ironically I use Adblocks too but affiliate marketing always seemed like a weird and opaque subject. ClickBank allows you to join for free, and the approval process is virtually automatic, so it’s a great choice for people entering the affiliated game for the first time. ClickBank has a ton of information, including FAQs, walk-throughs, and videos available, so the barrier to entry is quite low. There’s also a (paid) program called ClickBank University with courses and assistance from experienced marketers.
“Let’s say that they mailed for you and did $7,500 in commission,” she said. “I would send them stats within 12 hours, congratulate them, let them know that they did well over the $5,000 they considered successful, and ask if they could get a mailing to un-opens, and if they can rebook the deal very soon in the future. This is an easy way of getting a lot more out of the deal, and setting yourself up for another successful mailing in the future with that partner.”
“I will reach out to these partners to create a custom experience for their audience, or even a slightly different marketing angle, that resonates better. I also think of other ways to integrate our offer into their sales process. Email sends are not always the best, and at times can fatigue. When this happens, I try to get on their ‘thank you’ pages, upsell funnel, or even in their auto-responder series. Doing this creates a steady flow of revenue to all new buyers,” he said.
1: How much setup are you willing to do? Of the two, affiliate marketing requires less in the way of direct setup. You don’t need to contact suppliers, you just need to sign up for an affiliate network. You need to set up a website with both, but an affiliate marketer can use a simple blog, while a dropshipper needs a storefront. Dropshipping also requires more internal infrastructure to handle transactions and payments, including a business bank account to keep funds separate from personal funds.

Now a customer comes along and orders one of your cases. They pay you $20 and you immediately turn around, contact your supplier, and order one for $10. You don’t do anything else. You give the customer’s address to the supplier, and you give the customer the supplier’s customer service information. The supplier ships the product directly to the customer, and you pocket the $10. If the customer has an issue, the supplier’s customer service department deals with it.
“Cost of goods changes from time to time, product prices drop, etc. One mistake I made was not re-calculating all commissions to determine they were set correctly. After doing some digging, I realized that commissions on a few of our products were way higher than what they should have been. One way to fix this is to re-adjust commissions each year,” she explained.
